SELECTIONS FROM THE
CCC MEMBER HANDBOOK
A full copy of this Handbook is available at Rehearsal
Welcome
This handbook has been designed by your Choir Officers and Section Leaders to share the culture of the Chicago Community Chorus (CCC) and the expectations of members. It contains information regarding rehearsals, concert schedules, uniforms, membership and music fees, and other pertinent information. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to speak with your Section Leaders, Choir Officers, Keith Hampton (Founder & Artistic Director), or Timothy Maynie (Assistant Director).
Thank you for joining the Chicago Community Chorus, where Everybody Loves to Sing!
Rehearsals
The Spring Semester of the fourth season of the Chicago Community Chorus began January 8, 2007, and rehearsals continue every Monday from 7:00-9:30pm at the Park Manor Community Church (600 E. 73rd Street at St. Lawrence, Chicago, 60619). Parking is free and plentiful in the lot across the street.
Be sure to sign the attendance sheet each week to confirm your continued participation. If you know you will be unable to make rehearsals, please let your Section Leader or the Artistic Director know in advance.
Rehearsals are led by Keith Hampton (Artistic Director & Founder), Timothy Maynie (Assistant Director), and accompanist Yvonne Lindsey. Thanks also to church security, Art Paskel.
Music & Fees
The majority of CCC music is provided to members on loan, and some will be for purchase. Please note that loaned music must be returned in good condition, or member will be asked to cover the replacement cost.
Please bring a black 1-inch, 3-ring binder (clearly labeled with your name) to serve as your choir folder for both rehearsals and concerts. When using music books, please have the spine cut and bound, or use in your binder. If you are missing any of the music, please speak with Jodette Adams, Vice-President & Librarian , before or after rehearsal.
Members are also asked to contribute a participation fee of $60 per semester to help defray administrative costs.
Please know that no one will be denied membership for lack of funds. All payments and questions should be directed to Pat Lampkin-Vinnett, NOT to the Artistic Director or a Section Leader.
Section Leaders
Section Leaders are appointed by the Artistic Director, and are available to answer any questions you may have during rehearsals. These Leaders are also responsible for section rehearsals, assisting the Librarian in the distribution of music, and other duties as assigned by the Artistic Director.
Attire
The CCC standard of excellence should not only be reflected in our musical performance, but also in how we present ourselves. With this in mind, members should follow the dress code below, and contact a member of the CCC Attire Committee with any questions: Clara Griffin (chairperson), Teniya Farnandis, Tamara Griffin, Vickie Johnson, Terri Maynie or Ernestine Wagner. Please also keep cologne use to a minimum, if used at all. Remember that cologne cannot replace soap, water, clean clothes, and deodorant.
Women
Attire: Uniform black dress & jacket to be ordered from Clara Griffin. Pantyhose or tights should be black or off-black (not nude). Shoes should be black with toes enclosed.
Kente (Afro-Centric) Stole: Worn on the right side and attached with a safety pin (not a brooch). Please see member George Nearing if you need to purchase a Kente stole; a print scarf is not an acceptable alternative.
Head Gear & Jewelry: No wraps, hats, or visible clips/barrettes or visible jewelry (brooches, necklaces, anklets, etc.) is acceptable. The one exception is a single pair of white or beige pearls. These should be posts or small clips (meaning within, not dangling below the earlobe). Go bare rather than inappropriate; silver, gold, or diamond are not an acceptable alternatives.
Men
Attire is black tuxedo with white shirt, solid black bow tie, black socks and black shoes. Kente Stole should be worn around the neck, tucked under the collar of the tuxedo jacket. Please, no head wraps or hats.
